1998 World Aerobic Championship
The 1998 World Championship takes place in Orlando and there are two innovations: for the first time, two athletes per category per country are allowed to compete, and the Youth World Championship is also introduced, for athletes aged 9 to 17. The former world champion in pairs, Jonatan Canada, competes as a man individual with a routine in which he impersonates Dracula, one of the most memorable choreographies in the sport’s history. The Hungarian trio wins the world championship with a Ghostbusters-themed routine; in the same year they also manage to win the Suzuki World Cup, the FIG World Championship, and the FISAF World Championship. The Russian couple Solovieva-Oskner edges out the American pair by just one hundredth of a point, delivering a emotional routine set to the music of The Lion King.
