2001 World Aerobic Championship
The World Championship is held for the first time in San Francisco, with more than 400 participating athletes from 28 countries. The competition reached 230 million homes in 170 countries, through TV broadcasts on ESPN; ESPN2, Eurospost, MBC Korea, and other networks. Gold’s Gym and EAS are the official sponsors, while the competition is held in association with the World Fitness IDEA Convention for the 12th year. This edition is remembered for the iconicity of the 4 winners: Marcela Lopez (Brazil) wins her first senior world title; Diego Deville (Argentina) have the audience in a standing ovation with his routine inspired to Charlie Chaplin; the Hungarian trio wins the title again 3 years after the last time, and the Brazilian pair Olga and Roberson leave no space to the defending champions for another medal. The Italian mixed pair, FISAF World and European Champions, get a very well-deserved silver medal.
